The Bear

The Bear

We all have a memory from when we were children, when everything seemed right with the world; a memory that stands out above the rest as perfect, forever frozen in time.  Appearing as a fleeting echo more than an actual memory, it dances just outside our periphery, flirting with today, taunting us with the child we will never see again.

Mr. Piggy

Sitting outside conscious thought, we believe this child is safe from the world.  My figurative work in mixed media attempts to capture that child as they are now, helplessly watching from the inside as we inflict repeated horrors upon ourselves and those around us in an effort to protect that memory.

US.

A figurative work of innocence lost.

From growing up without modern conveniences in the woods of Alaska to my many years of combat as a Green Beret, I learned to not only survive in the extremes of good and bad but to thrive, and even long, for them.  It is in these extremes that man reveals himself to the world as he truly is, and I find that truth to be comforting.

The Farmer

As we grow, that child is buried, layer upon layer, by love and hate, rejection and praise, war and death, lies and truth, pain and shame.  Alone and scared, these kids remain buried.  That child is our unfiltered truth.

Mary Sue

“Us.” explores the possibility of speaking to that inner child, and wonders what we would say to them if we were strong enough to speak our truth.
